Coffee Study worth reading during your Coffee break
Coffee can be a real life saver on those days when you’re just dragging
and can’t seem to wake up or be alert.
Now a new study shows your cup of Joe can be a literal life saver, too.
Harvard School of Public Health found those who drink between two and
four cups a day have a nearly 50 percent reduced risk of suicide.
After looking at and analyzing data from over 200,000 subjects,
researchers concluded that caffeine was responsible for almost
halving suicide rates in a group of people that drank caffeinated beverages.
Nearly 80 percent of those drinks were in the form of coffee.
“Unlike previous investigations, we were able to assess association of
consumption of caffeinated and non-caffeinated beverages, and
we identify caffeine as the most likely candidate of any putative protective effect of coffee,”
said lead researcher Michel Lucas, in a press statement.
How does the caff provide these protective effects?
Caffeine is a stimulant that may act as a mild antidepressant by boosting levels of
serotonin, dopamine, and noradrenaline in the brain, explain the authors.
The study was published in The World Journal of Biological Psychiatry in early July.
